How does Hypnosis actually works?

When a client comes in for their first session, I have them explain the symptoms of the issue that they are facing, whether that is  some form of addiction, nicotine, food, alcohol, or other drugs, such as Meth or Heroin. They usually let me know how they are stuck and cannot stop the behavior that, they believe, (think), is causing them some much stress and anxiety.

I explain that despite what we were raised to believe, “I think there fore I am”, in actuality “We are not our thoughts, we are not our emotions. Our thoughts and emotions define our personality, but we are beyond our thoughts and emotions.

If you drive a car, and I asked you to go out to your car, get in the car, turn it on, put it in gear, take the brakes off, then get out of the car, what would happen?

Almost all clients respond with the answer, “The car would roll around until it crashes into something”

Now I want you to think of your body as the chassis to the car, the brain, (or as I call it, the EGO) is the engine to the car, but where is the driver?

We are the energy behind the body, we are the life force, the consciousness that exists within the body, while we are on this plane of existence. To help us  take control of our thoughts and emotions, we must learn to we are soul, the chi, the prana, that gives us our life. We are NOT our Thoughts,  We are NOT our Emotions.

Our brains have been gathering information, (being programmed much like a computer),  from the world around us since  the day we were born, and according to much research we have started gathering information while we were still in the womb. This information, these images, and messages come from the people and events around us, especially the adults and authority figures in our lives.

We are programmed on what it means to be a good boy / girl, or a bad boy / girl. We are taught what it means to be successful, we are taught how important it is to be right, to win, and how to succeed, at any cost.

As we grow, those programs, those bits of information, because i road map. We basically create three main archetypes, The Inner Judge, The Inner Victim, and the Inner Warrior.  Each of these archetypes works instantly and automatically, without any conscious thought.

Think about when you run across any situation, a new person, a new place, a new event, no matter what we are faced with, we, (our Inner Judge) instantly and automatically, without any conscious thought at all, make a judgement about the person, place, or event that we are facing. This is exactly what is suppose to happen. Our brains, our egos, are designed to keep us safe, and we are always on the watch for anything around us that may possess a threat. In the olden days that threat was usually in the form of wild animals, being out, and unprotected, in nature. In today’s world  our greatest threats come from other people in the form of mental or physical abuse. Most of the time we are not in danger of loosing our lives, but our brains / egos, respond in the same way.

First our brain waves:

will respond by speeding up. You see, our hearts beat in beats per minutes, and our brains beat in beats per second. Generally we are in what is knows as the Beta state, a state associated with Insight, our normal waking state of consciousness, utilizing the five senses, sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. When our defensive mechanisms are brought into play, our brain waves speed up and we are put into the Gamma state, which is associated with Alertness, attached to a heightened sense of awareness, this state activates the Sympathetic Nervous system which controls the Flight, Fight, or Freeze response, in an effort to protect ourselves. All of this comes from the programming, images, and messages, that we were programmed with as children.

All of this is usually taking place without any conscious awareness, but once you start using the power of Hypnosis we are able to become conscious of our thoughts, our emotions, our judgements, and we are able to choose our responses, instead of being at the mercy of these responses.

With the power of Hypnosis you can make friends with your thoughts and emotion., You can experience your thoughts and emotions  with awareness, and mindfulness. The brain, is very important, you can’t live without it, it controls your physical reactions in the body, the blood flow, the breathing, the internal processes, and it is designed to help you navigate and experience the world around you, but you need to remember that you are in ultimate charge, you are the ultimate master of your brain.

Over the last several years it has been determined through research and study, that all of our addictions are “Coping Mechanisms”. Things like alcohol, food, nicotine, and behaviors, are our way of trying to control our Fight, Flight, or Freeze, response. As I tell my clients, you need to recognize that you were trying to learn how to relax, how to go from the Sympathetic Nervous System, when our bodies and filled with chemicals such as cortisol, and adrenaline. to a more peace filled Para Sympathetic Nervous System, where our bodies are filled with chemicals such as norenepherine, dopamine, and Serotonin, that allow us to recognize our thoughts, and actually begin to focus on actual solutions, instead of symptoms.

So you can make a choice between Talk Therapy, where the focus is on the symptoms created by the issue, or you can ask yourself, Hypnosis how does it work? It works by focusing on the source of our issues, not the symptoms of our issues.
